An explosion in a hospital in Pakistan has so far claimed the lives of 52 people, with dozens more being injured. The explosion occurred in the South-Western Pakistani city of Quetta. BBC Reports

While no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack yet, local police believe that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber and reports have suggested that gunfire followed the detonation.

18 lawyers and journalists were caught in the explosion as they accompanied the body of a lawyer shot dead earlier in the day. The lawyer, Bilal Anwar Kasi, had been a strong opponent of a series of recent attacks that have claimed the lives of other lawyers.

These recent attacks in Quetta have been linked to a separatist insurgency in the province of Balochistan, as well as general tensions with the sectarian community and related crime.
