131 people have been killed and as many as 200 others have been injured after a car bomb exploded in a Baghdad market early Sunday, making it the deadliest attack in Iraq this year.

Another bomb was detonated in a second part of the city killing 5, though it may have simply been a fire..

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack which, reportedly, used a refrigerator van packed with explosives.

The Iraqi government has announced 3 days of mourning in response and the US government released a statement reaffirming their commitment to the mission against the Islamic State.

Protesters marched to the Iraqi prime minister’s house, Haider al-Abadi, later Sunday night, complaining that the government wasn’t doing enough to ensure the security of the public.
