A Report is alleging that the Chinese government has continued harvesting organs from its prisoners on a mass scale, despite announcing that they would stop the practice in 2014.
According to the report, 1.5 million people have had organs removed since 2000, nearly 300,000 of such operations were carried out at unregulated clinics. On an annual basis anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 prisoners of conscience are executed for their organs.
A prisoner of conscience is someone who has been jailed for their sexual orientation, race, social status, political or religious views. Those practicing a meditative form known as Falun Gong have, reportedly, been specifically targeted and killed on demand for their organs in an attempt to wipe out the practice.
The Chinese government has maintained that the true number of organ transplants taking place every year is around 10,000 and that all allegations of mass organ harvesting or incorrect.
