The militant organization Abu Sayyaf has reportedly beheaded a another Canadian hostage after the ransom for his life failed to be payed. This is the second Canadian to be beheaded by the group, on April 25th John Ridsdel was murdered for the same reason.
The victim of this most recent murder was Robert Hall. In a statement to the public, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he has have every reason to believe the reports and reiterated that Canada cannot pay ransoms, out of fear that it will turn all Canadians abroad into targets.
Robert Hall was kidnapped alongside the late John Ridsdel, his wife, and Filipina native, Marites Flor and a Norwegian named Kjartan Sekkingstad. The four were abducted on September 21st from a marina near the city of Davao in The Philippines and were brought to the remote island of Jolo, an Abu Sayyaf stronghold.
The Al-Qaeda linked militant group had demanded $6.4 million for each of the four captives, threatening to behead each one if their ransoms were not paid. The fate of the remaining two is not yet certain.
